Ever since you got engaged, you may have imagined yourselves looking ravishing in white, silky flowing gown, coming down the aisle to marry your perfect man! To make your wedding memorable and just like you have envisioned, you need to get the best wedding dress.
Remember, however, that best does not necessarily mean the most expensive. You need to jot down what you want in your dress.
Imagine yourself on the wedding day
Picture yourself on your big day. What dress are you wearing? Is it pure white or some shade of white? Traditionally, pure white has been used in wedding dresses but many women choose to go with colors that complement their skin.
Some popular colors you might see in dresses available online are diamond white, ivory and cream. Gowns are also available in black, blue, and pink.
Also, think what your gown will be like. Will it be chiffon, satin or mid-weight silk? Will it be strapless or will it have spaghetti straps?
Do your homework
Go to different shops and have a look at various gowns available to get a fair idea of prices and designs. Pull out some bridal magazines such as Bridal Guide, Brides or Modern Guide for wedding dress rends.
Magazine cutouts or printouts of dresses from websites will help you a lot when you are looking for the right dress. A bridal salon will suggest you dresses based on your preference, body type and age.
What is your body type?
Pick a dress which will flatter your body shape. Ball bridal gowns or full skirt gowns are good for those who have a pear-shaped body. If you have a fuller body in the areas of waist and hips, you might want to go with A-Line gown which does not have a fitted waist.
Is it too costly?
Never go for a gown which falls out of your price range. Bridal dresses range from a few hundred to a few hundred thousand dollars in price. Ideally, you should not spend more than 10% of your wedding expenses on your wedding attire which includes jewelry, gloves, shoes and veil along with the dress.
Get going early
It is never too early to start shopping for your wedding day dress. Have at least 6 months in which your dress will be made and altered. Three months will go in the making of your gown by a manufacturer. After getting your gown, you can have alterations to correct any mistakes.
