Josh Goot was one of the up and coming stars of London Fashion Week with a much talked about collection for spring summer 09. So who is this new designer and what was so good about his latest collection?
Josh Goot is an Australian designer who started his label in 2005. He showed at New York fashion week in 2006 and in September 2007 debuted at London Fashion Week with his Spring Summer 09 collection. Josh Goot undertook a degree in Media Art & Production degree at Sydney’s University of Technology in 1999.
He made the decision to use these skills to become a fashion designer. His first collection won him the Tiffany & Co young designer of the year award in Australia giving him the reputation of being a rising fashion design star in his native Australia.
His latest spring summer 09 collection is an experiment with colour that has proved a huge success. The inspiration came from water colour paintings, in fact the designs on some of the dresses were created by throwing splodges of water colour paints and then manipulating the images on the computer to produce swirly psychedelic prints. But the collection was not all about the prints, there were also some very simple and minimalistic outfits in block colours both bright and muted neutrals.
The collection was energetic but relaxed in jersey and soft materials that seemed to scream wearability. It was fresh and modern with some really exciting pieces like the mini capelets in stretch jersey that just covered the shoulders and flattering asymmetrical dresses.
I have no idea where the next season’s collection will take us, but I am sure that Josh Groot is destined for great things and hope that he will become a permanent fixture at London Fashion Week.
