40+ Outstanding Engagement Ring Trends Ideas To Try In 2019

Posted on

With the dawn of a new year comes a new way of thinking and a fresh set of ideas. We look back to see what and where we can improve on things and how we can push forward and evolve.

If you’re thinking about popping the question or getting down on one knee don’t head out to the jewelry store without knowing the newest engagement ring trends for 2019.

In terms of settings, the style gurus are going for “vintage glamor” and drawing their inspiration from the Edwardians and Victorians right through to the floral patterns of the 70s. This translates into finally worked and detailed pieces, mostly in white metal (white gold and platinum) with intricate designs.

Raised settings are likely the biggest trend of the year with the center stone set away from the finger allowing for additional shank surface to be adorned or embellished with diamond detailing. Recent advances in CAD (Computer Aided Design) and RP (Rapid Prototyping) within the jewelry industry lets designers create very detailed and intricate pieces that are cut with precision and bring focus to the center stone.

At one end of the spectrum are white on white engagement rings, inspired by the Edwardians. White diamonds, white metal, and halo settings will dazzle the eye in 2019. A center diamond surrounded or framed by a ‘halo’ of smaller white diamonds not only makes the center stone appear larger but also adds a ton of sparkle. This is a great trend for those with shallower pockets.

Although white diamonds are an all-time classic when it comes to engagement rings, this year is really about color. From the most expensive pink and canary yellow diamonds, to the more affordable family of colored gemstones like citrine, tanzanite, emeralds and rubies, you and your sweetie will find the perfect color to suit your heart’s desire. Prince William’s recent proposal to Kate Middleton with a sapphire engagement ring only helped solidify this particular trend.

While we are on the subject of color, one of the biggest trends of the year in engagement rings is “Green” as in thinking about eco-design, eco-products and generally being eco-conscious. For engagement rings, this means conflict-free diamonds or better still, gemstone or birthstone rings, and recycled gold settings.

For so long, most of us (especially in North America) have been stuck in the engagement ring box–meaning we think an engagement ring needs to look a certain way. What’s so important about most of the trends of 2019 is that they teach us to think outside that box.

They remind us that we need to factor-in to the selection process our every day sensibilities, our personal sense of color and style, and our individuality. They show us that in the end, an engagement ring should be as unique as the love that you share.
